The Ghost Shop
An investigation by Gervase Fen
Synopsis
Suffering from a bout of writer’s block, the famous poet Richard Cadogan decides to take a sudden holiday in Oxford. Finding himself on a main street in the dead of night with nowhere to stay, he stumbles upon a toy shop with its door open. Curiosity prompts him to enter, but he does not have time to see the murdered body of a woman before a blow to the head knocks him unconscious. He wakes up the next morning in a storeroom, but after managing to escape and alert the police, he discovers that the toy shop is no longer there—replaced, apparently, by a grocery store. Confused, Cadogan turns to an old university friend, the eccentric professor and amateur detective Gervase Fen, to solve the mystery of this “ghost” shop and the missing corpse.
