A FEMININE ANTHOLOGY LARGELY UNPUBLISHED IN ITALY
A bullied teenager transforms into a werewolf. The captain of a spaceship must save the Earth, but is defeated by bureaucracy. A mother is willing to become an alien creature to save her daughter. And still more Japanese cyberpunk cities, close encounters with extraterrestrials, and much more.
It is said that speculative fiction serves to imagine different worlds, to foresee future ones. But the best helps us understand the present. Long before the world began talking about artificial intelligence, patriarchy, climate crisis, surveillance society, and automation, sixteen great female authors had intuited the direction the world was heading and had told its stories.
For a long time, science fiction, horror, and fantasy were considered literary genres of predominantly male interest, but it was women who intuited some of the most radical ideas and images and wrote the most shocking stories. These pages prove it.
Sixteen stories from different countries, written in the second half of the twentieth century, that know how to make us laugh, unsettle us, and move us. That make us believe we are talking about future worlds and times, while revealing our present with extreme lucidity.
