San Marino Goodbye
A novel of war and love, small states and big conspiracies
Synopsis
One day the borders of the oldest republic in the world close. Centuries of coexistence end with the lowering of a rusty bar. Tempers flare, while bank accounts are frozen. Millions of Italians realize they have a State within their own State, and now it is truly angry.
At this point, anything goes. There are those who try to cross the borders with deception and those who defend the frontier with all means. There are deceitful Captains Regent, young idealists and upright customs officers, vacationers with a passion for the Duce and influencers with a passion for turnover. There is international diplomacy that moves, while the shadow of the conspiracy lengthens over Mount Titano. There are those who find time to love even with war at the gates.
We find all the elements that characterize these troubled times: the obsession with borders, the winds of war, the hatred for the different, the damage of a certain rhetoric. Until the final twist, the novel remains balanced between comedy and tragedy. As always happens in our country, and in those it contains.
