“Jacqueline Harpman is the polyglot of literature: she masters every literary genre as if they were different languages.” Amélie Nothomb

Synopsis

The protagonist of this book, an ironic and irreverent woman who bears a striking resemblance to the author, finds herself forced to leave the earthly world behind. So far, nothing unusual. But after death, no less than God appears before her: in the guise of a charming, authoritative, and moreover half-naked man. The Creator demands to be worshipped; he insists that the narrator follow him into the heavenly kingdom.
A lively conflict ensues, fraught with tension and twists. In addition to his muscles, this God has arguments, and he knows how to use them. But it will take much more to make a hardened atheist like the protagonist renounce her lifelong convictions and give up her freedom—especially her intellectual freedom.
With this book, Jacqueline Harpman, author of the international bestseller I Never Knew Men, confirms her status as one of the most original and irreverent figures in contemporary literature.
