Gilda is afraid of death, like everyone else. Except that she is also afraid of continuing to live, and all that this entails: managing a family that is incapable of dealing with problems. Or paying the bills. Or finally turning her relationship with Eleanor around.
When, somewhat by chance, she begins working as a secretary at St. Rigobert's Church, she discovers a new perspective on death and survival. People who life doesn't smile on more than it does on her, and who nevertheless continue to try.
