The Ugly Book of Ugly Books
A history of Italy through rare and cult books.
Synopsis
All books have their dignity - or at least their place in the world. A rollercoaster journey through Italian culture and society, told firsthand through often overlooked or undervalued literary works. Auroro Borealo, known for their Instagram page “Libri Brutti” and the popular “Libri Brutti Podcast,” guides us on a journey that reveals how these seemingly “ugly” texts actually reflect significant moments in our collective history.
Through a carefully curated selection of books with unusual titles and eccentric covers, Auroro explores themes ranging from politics to society, from religion to popular culture. Each chapter offers a critical and ironic look at these works, highlighting how, despite appearances, literature can be found in the most unexpected places.
This book celebrates Italian cultural and literary diversity, demonstrating that even the most unconventional works tell us who we were and who we are today. “The Ugly Book of Ugly Books” is an invitation to rediscover the beauty hidden in the “ugly” and to recognize the intrinsic value of every cultural expression. There are no ugly books. There are only relevant books.

Author
AURORO BOREALO (FRANCESCO ROGGERO). Singer-songwriter, performer, podcaster, popularizer, record label owner, tired, hypochondriac, poor, Auroro Borealo is the greatest Italian collector of bad books. Perhaps the only one. His Instagram page Libri Brutti (around 90 thousand followers, which has recently also become a successful podcast) collects and tells the most absurd pages of Italian literature, in an attempt to show that all culture has its dignity and that there are no bad books, only relevant books. This is his first book.
