If on a rainy night your roof were the sky
Female voices of resistance in Gaza
Synopsis
For over two years, the world has seen the devastating images of the genocide in Gaza: homes bombed, schools and hospitals destroyed, families pulled from the rubble. But behind every image are lives like ours, full of hope, love, and community.
In these diaries, four women from Gaza – Batool Abu Akleen, Sondos Sabra, Nahil Mohana, and Ala’a Obaid – tell those lives in their own voices. Their lives. Transformed by a siege that has devastated their cities and their existences. The fear of planes and drones, displacement, famine. But also the resilience with which the inhabitants face each new day: the neighbor who makes an ashtray from the shrapnel of a missile, the vendor who gives his last egg for a birthday cake, those who share resources to celebrate a wedding.
Under attack, on the run, forced to bury their loved ones, without medical care or aid, these authors do not give up their humanity or their faith in the future of their land. These are not stories of pity, but of love, beauty, and even humor. Because the very existence of these diaries, like the survival of their authors, is an act of resistance.
All proceeds from this book will go to the authors and their families.
