The Tiber burns

€18,90

Forgotten enterprises, fateful moments and whims of history that changed humanity

Synopsis

There are books that illuminate the past and others that turn it into an enchantment.
And then there is "Il Tevere brucia", which does both: it is a journey through the most unusual and forgotten corners of human History, told with the precision of an archivist and the soul of a poet.
In this book, History, with its protagonists and its pivotal moments, becomes a constellation of extraordinary stories, united by an invisible thread that binds genius, the absurd, and the sublime.
We discover thus that the most powerful man of every era suffered terribly from his baldness or that one day a scoundrel "invented" terrorism just to defraud the insurance company. We become passionate about the story of the two warplane pilots who shot at each other in the sky, but embraced on the ground. And then so many other adventures so incredible they seem false: instead, not only are all these feats true, but they changed the course of the world
as we know it.
In this way "Il Tevere brucia" reminds us that History is not a pile of dates, but a mosaic of lives, mistakes, discoveries, and wonders.

If you love Irene Vallejo for her depth and Alessandro Barbero for his ability to make the past come alive and exciting, this book will leave you breathless. An essential read for those seeking the fire beneath the ashes of History and the magic hidden in the details of everyday life.

Author

Daniel López Valle was born in Elche (Valencia) and lives in Barcelona. A journalist and writer, he has worked for numerous publications, but in his Spain he is universally recognized as a champion of “Saber y Ganar,” a famous quiz show that is the equivalent of our “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”. For years, he has delighted Italian readers with the puzzles in the “Summer Homework Notebook for Adults” published by Blackie Edizioni, of which he is the author. He hates beer, spiders, and elevators; he loves whisky, uncomfortable chairs, and walks.
